Women's Tour de France winner Linda Villumsen has paid tribute to New Zealand as a preparation base for one of her best seasons on the bike.

After two seasons with Buitenpoort Flexpoint, the winner of the Holland Expert Ladies Tour in 2005, Tanja Schmidt-Hennes, will ride for Bigla in 2007, joining up again with some of her ex-colleagues from the now defunct Next125 team.

In 1996, Bjarne Riis became a national hero throughout Denmark in the Tour de France. Soon after, Linda Villumsen borrowed a bike from the local club team, Herning CK, got her license and started racing every weekend.
