Kirsten Wild rode her last road race on Friday, but it was not really the way she’d planned it. The Simac Ladies Tour was always going to be her last road race, but a positive COVID-19 case in the team meant that the entire Ceratizit-WNT team had to withdraw from the race with two stages to go. “This is not the way I would have planned it but on the other hand it’s fitting for the past one and a half years where we hardly did any track tournaments due to the pandemic,”...

Niet veel Nederlandse sporters pakten dit jaar medailles op een WK, een EK en een NK. Kirsten Wild hoort bij dat selecte gezelschap. Ze pakte in maart onder meer driemaal goud tijdens de WK in Apeldoorn. Vanuit die hal kijkt ze deze dagen terug op haar jaar.

Interviews - Voor Kirsten Wild begon de Road to Rio al in de zomer van 2014, toen een ingewikkeld kwalificatietraject werd ingezet om straks in de Braziliaanse stad bij de Olympische Spelen van de partij te kunnen zijn op het omnium op de baan. Dit weekeinde gaat ze van start in de tweede wereldbekerwedstrijd van het seizoen. Naast punten scoren in de wereldbekers zijn ook het NK in Apeldoorn en het WK in Frankrijk grote doelen deze winter.

The Ladies Tour of Qatar, on 4th-7th February, is the traditional season-opener for the women's peloton, and it's always one of the most exciting races of the year, giving us the chance to see the new teams in action for the first time. Last year, Kirsten Wild won the race in spectacular fashion - so who better to preview this year's race for the Café? We caught up with her to talk desert racing, having her 2013 season interrupted by injury - and coming back stronger - racing for Liv-Shimano, and more!

Team van Bemmelen-AA Drink manager Michael Zijlaard contracted Kirsten Wild, an all-rounder with sprinting capabilities, as its first new rider for 2006. The talented 24 year old from Almelo proved to be s shrewd choice, winning no less than six races, her first victories in the pro ranks.
