Emma Silversides was born in the Yorkshire village of Cawood. A talented swimmer in her teens, it was during her time at the University of Bath that she discovered triathlon, setting her on a path that would ultimately lead to professional bike racing.

Emma Silversides has become the first British rider to sign for Belgium's top women's pro cycle team Lotto - Belisol. The 29 year from North Yorkshire will join her new teammates, including Athens Olympic road race champion Australian Sara Carrigan, in February.

Maths teacher Emma Silversides has discovered a formula which she hopes will usher in a new cycle of success. The Cawood-born speedster will hurtle into 2008 armed with a professional contract with Belgium-based women's cycling team Lotto Belisol.
