Nata il 26 agosto 1983, la bionda Valentina Alessio ha cominciato a correre fin dalla giovanissima età conquistando, tra strada, ciclocross e pista, numerose maglie tricolori. Nella categoria juniores si è particolarmente distinta a livello internazionale nel settore della pista, dove spiccano alcune medaglie ed un record mondiale nei 500 metri da fermo.
