At the beginning of his career he struggled to find space among professionals. It was only in 2004 that Lampre found the courage to bet on him and this choice was then rewarded by great results such as the victory in the Tour of Flanders in 2007 and the Varese World Championship in 2008, won thanks to a splendid action crowned by the egregious work of the National team directed by Franco Ballerini. In 2010 Ballan then moved to BMC, until the day of his competitive retirement. We reached him by telephone at the Castelfranco Veneto home where he is currently in quarantine.
